What is ITEM?
ITEM is Minnesota’s professional organization for all school library media specialists, technology coordinators and specialists, technology integrationists, and anyone else is interested in application of information and technology to learning.
Connections. ITEM communicates through an e-mail list and social networking website that involves over 1000 education professionals. This makes it easy for members to share information, build best practices, connect with others in education, and get critical questions answered. ITEM also has a presence on Facebook and Twitter that allows further sharing of information and ideas.
Advocacy. ITEM members are represented by a professional lobbyist at the Minnesota Legislature who tracks school library and education technology issues and advocates for ITEM’s mission to help students build information and technology literacy skills for success in a global society.
Professional Development. ITEM provides some of the best professional development opportunities available for people in the school library media and education technology fields. ITEM hosts at least three professional development conference events each year in fall, winter, and summer. We tap in to our state network of library and education professionals AND bring in national experts to provide participants with the most current information on hot topics such as mobile devices and e-books, trends in youth literature, bring your own technology initiatives, and the flipped classroom.
